Canvas prints consist of three elements: the printed material, the wooden bars that form the frame and the hanging attachments on the back.
We print our photos to canvas in high resolution (1440 dpi) with Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks onto a carefully selected poly/cotton canvas material. This results in stunning, vibrant canvas prints with the additional benefit of excellent longevity. After printing, our canvases are hung 24 hours for drying purposes. This allows the ink to absorb into the natural cotton within the material, reducing any possibility of cracking that can occur when framing.
The most important issue with how to print a canvas is selecting the framing style. Choosing how the printed canvas wraps over the wooden frame is a very important part of creating personal wall art that best displays your picture. We offer three different methods which are explained below.
Our natural wood frames are hand assembled from knot-free redwood pine.Your print is hand stretched and carefully stapled onto the wooden frame. Special tension adjusters are inserted into the back of the frame. Should the natural cotton of the canvas stretch over time, these can be adjusted to re-tension the material.
Our prints arrive with you complete and ready to hang with purpose designed canvas hangers on the rear of the frame.
We offer a wide range of sizes designed especially to match your personal photos and fit with any room size or decor. Our sizes range from standard photo sizes, to modern squares, to a variety of panoramic shapes especially created for your amazing panoramas taken on walks or holidays. This is by far the most popular method of photos to canvas framing, especially with panoramic photography. Normally it is desirable to keep the entire photo on the front of the canvas frame. This may be necessary because various elements of the photograph are close the the edges or simply that the overall look of the image is improved by keeping the entire photo on the front. Generally, it is more aesthetically pleasing to have the sides of a canvas frame printed. This allows the canvas print to be a cohesive whole and is more engaging visually.
However when you capture your photograph, carefully composing your picture of a remarkable view, you are not always thinking of allowing an extra margin for the edge of a canvas print. This is where the mirror option comes in. We take your photo and reflect it over the sides. Mirroring allows your entire photographic composition to be printed on the front of the canvas frame whilst still retaining a reflection of the colours and style over the sides, creating the illusion of a continuous image.
For our wrap style of framing canvas, the photo is taken over the edges of the frame and wrapped over the sides. This means that some of your original photography is on the sides of the frame, rather than the front. Your picture continuing over the sides gives a lovely visual effect.
Wrapping is a perfect method for pictures that have additional background or items on the edges of your photo that are not part of the main focal point of the composition. However if your main feature is coming close to the sides of the frame when you view the proof, we would recommend choosing the mirror option.
Sometimes simplicity is the best option. Occasionally a particular image lends itself to the purity of plain canvas. This method of framing may be suitable for photos with the background removed, a graphic image or other artwork. Or perhaps your canvas print is going into a very modern, airy loft-style room. For these reasons we offer the option of plain canvas on frame sides.
This method of canvas framing retains your entire artwork or picture on the front of the frame. Your photo is taken just to the edge of the frame and wrapped over the curvature of the frame edge for just a couple of millimetres. This results in the canvas print being aesthetically pleasing when viewed from the front whilst still retaining the clarity provided by plain canvas around the edges.
We hope that you will be happy with your unique, custom produced wall art!
